Should I draft a WR first?

Now that most leagues are PPR it is advantageous to draft high quality, targeted often WRs. I would always take one of the top 4 RBs first but after that you should stack your team with WRs. Leagues that I participate in normally have some sort of slash player that undoubtedly becomes a WR. Let’s look at the top 40 ranked players:
  1. Ray Rice, RB, Ravens
  2. LeSean McCoy, RB, Eagles
  3. Arian Foster, RB, Texans
  4. Aaron Rodgers, QB, Packers
  5. Chris Johnson, RB, Titans
  6. Tom Brady, QB, Patriots
  7. Calvin Johnson, WR, Lions
  8.  Maurice Jones-Drew, RB, Jaguars
  9. Larry Fitzgerald, WR, Cardinals
  10. Drew Brees, QB, Saints
  11.  Rob Gronkowski, TE, Patriots
  12. Andre Johnson, WR, Texans
  13. Greg Jennings, WR, Packers
  14. Hakeem Nicks, WR, Giants
  15. Matthew Stafford, QB, Lions
  16.  Jimmy Graham, TE, Saints
  17. Ryan Mathews, RB, Chargers
  18. Fred Jackson, RB, Bills
  19.  Trent Richardson, RB, Browns
  20.  Marshawn Lynch, RB, Seahawks
  21.  Darren McFadden, RB, Raiders
  22. Victor Cruz, WR, Giants
  23. Cam Newton, QB, Panthers
  24. Ahmad Bradshaw, RB, Giants
  25. Julio Jones, WR, Falcons
  26. Roddy White, WR, Falcons
  27. A.J. Green, WR, Bengals
  28. Wes Welker, WR, Patriots
  29. Brandon Marshall, WR, Bears
  30. Jordy Nelson, WR, Packers
  31. Jamaal Charles, RB, Chiefs
  32. Matt Forte, RB, Bears
  33. Percy Harvin, WR, Vikings
  34. Tony Romo, QB, Cowboys
  35. Dez Bryant, WR, Cowboys
  36. DeMarco Murray, RB, Cowboys
  37. Dwayne Bowe, WR, Chiefs
  38. Mike Wallace, WR, Steelers
  39. Antonio Brown, WR, Steelers
  40. Philip Rivers, QB, Chargers
Of the top 40 players 17 were WRs, 14 were RBs, 7 were QBs and 2 were TEs. This tells me that the majority of the points will come from WRs this upcoming year. I am not saying having a combination of Antonio Brown, Dwayne Bowe and AJ Green are going to outscore Tom Brady and Calvin Johnson but you have a more realistic chance of having the first three rather than the last two.

Proper draft strategy, if you can get Ray Rice (who is due for a tough year with the amount of carries he has had), Arian Foster, MJD, or LeSean McCoy take them. If you can get Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers or Tom Brady take them. After those players are gone go after all the top WRs on the board. In my opinion after the top RBs and QBs are gone the rest are just about the same. If you can get a Ben Roethlisburger or Matt Ryan in the 5th or 6th round go for it. Getting Andre Johnson and Wes Welker on your team will get you monster points!
